October's Member of the Month: Carolyn McPhail

Each month GCAE appreciates and honors one of our outstanding members who goes above and beyond the call of duty to support this organization, our families, & our community at large.

Carolyn has exhibited these traits and we want to publicly recognize her for all of her hard work!

Have you ever met someone who exudes happiness? Such people do exist and if you have never met someone like that, you obviously have never met GCAE’S treasure

Ms. Carolyn McPhail. She is affectionately known as “Mama M” to her students, coworkers and in the halls of Meadowcreek High School and has been for well over a decade. For years in her professional career as an Educator, and as a Paraprofessional, “Mama M” has especially touched counselors, special needs students , parents and just anyone who seems to need her ray of sunshine in a dark moment! She is a true representative of her native state “North Carolina”, which was one of the original 13 colonies. So too, she has an original determination to make a difference in student’s lives. “Mama M” holds close to her faith as it gives her direction and purpose. If you ask her what is important to her, she will give you that original smile and say, her family, her husband and partner for life, her daughter and her 3 grandchildren give her high expectancy and presence.

As a longtime member of GCAE she has served respectively as a Cluster Leader and as an Activity Chair. She was once asked what is it about GCAE that she likes – her response was “as a proud member of GCAE, I feel as though I am adding to the advancement of future students and citizens of Gwinnett County, and of Georgia. I get the opportunity to share my professional developments [her AA degree in Business and her BS degree] with others like me. That is strength... that’s power, that’s love!" She goes on to say, “if I had the option to do something else in my life... I would still be a teacher and work with my students and families again!”

Thank you, Mama M, for sharing your skills, talents, and love with GCAE and Gwinnett County Public Schools! You are an original in so many ways!!!!! Continued success to you as our Member of the Month for October, 2020.

Thank you again Carolyn for being a rockstar!
